1. Inline fuel filter blocked and needs replacing
2. Corrosion in fuel tank causing blockage

Solution - follow Bill's advice.

check the return spring may be weak also when its
running hold the primer down and see what happens
may just tell you something

Of course there is always the age old problem of the tank vent being blocked which causes a vacuum in the tank and the fuel stops flowing.

I have had a problem with the fuel pump after priming .It will fill the bowl OK and run, until it empty the bowl .I found that the primer leaver does not return and remains in the up position .So I guess it's lifting the arm away from the camshaft.

Hi Andrew

Fuel pump diaphrams are a problem with modern fuels.  Its worth replacing it with a new one if it is quite old. 
Fuel filters which need cleaning.  There is one in the inlet banjo to the carburetor and there can also be a filter in the fuel pump as well as the one you have fitted.  If the problem is your fuel filters blocking up you may have to remove the tank and give it a good clean.

Just taken the 1934 Austin 10/4 out for a quick run.

First two miles no problem then she died.
It's a fuel issue.

Ran for another couple of miles (downhill!)and she stopped again. Empty carb again.
Primed by hand and off we go again.
This carries on until I am getting just about 100 yards each time then stopping.

Action time. Took out the (self fitted) online fuel filter, re-fitted, tightened up and drove the last two miles, including a couple of gradients home with no problem.

Any ideas of the cause of the problem?

Might it have been that the fuel filter was not tightened up enough?, air in the fuel system ?, fuel pump problem (have ruled this out as all seems to be working now).

Any suggestions welcome - fortunately didn't have the other half with me today but would like to get it sorted as next time she's likely to be in the passenger seat!!!
