Austin 10 year?

Hi, I've just purchase a bit of a barn find Austin 10 cambridge. I have a V5 for the car but i only have documentation from 1996 i think. Is there a way of telling the age of the car? And is there a way of getting any documentation from when it was made and first registered?

If anyone could help that would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Having a V5 is important as it means you won't have to go through the mill with DVLA as it has already been done. The V5 should give an indication of the date first registration.

If not the documents from 1966 may help - e.g. if you have a replacement log book issued by the local registration authority - the computerised V5 did not come into being until the 1980s. At the transition most of the local authority records were destroyed.

The chassis/body number will give an indication of the approx. date of manufacture. The Club can help with this or look in the table in Ch XI of Staton Abbey, Pitman's Book of the Austin Ten.

Unless they come with the car you are unlikely to find any original documents from 1936-39. Unlike RR there are no surviving factory records.

A quick vehicle check shows that the number is still listed so it makes things easier for you than having no paperwork at all.  Heres a link to DVLA

https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ViewVehicle

I sent off a V888 and £5 and some history came back for my car, just copies of old microfiche data, but inclided some details as far back as 1941.

All the best with getting it back on the road!
