Shock absorbers for 1938 Austin 10

Hi,
I am carrying out some mechanical restoration work on a 1938 Austin 10 Cambridge.
Where can I get reconditioned front lever shock absorbers (pair), or info on where my old ones can be rebuilt. What are typical cost for rebuild?

Also need rear window rubber seal - is there anyone re-manufacturing them?

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

This is one company who are able to repair/supply spares and sell reconditioned Luvax shock absorbers -

Also Mark Greening at Alderton Austin Services Ltd might be able to help - 01242 620609.

Regards,

Richard.

Re: Shock absorbers for 1938 Austin 10

Hi John

I have used Stevson Motors in Birmingham to recondition my front Luvax and rear Armstrong lever arm dampers on my 1938 Austin 12 New Ascot. They are quick and efficient and reasonably priced.  They like them to be delivered with the drop links etc still attached if you want them to replace the rubber bushes on these at the same time.

Re: Shock absorbers for 1938 Austin 10

If your Cambridge is a late 1938 model (the one with the umbrella handbrake rather than the signal lever type) it will have piston-type dampers rather than the earlier (and inferior) Luvax vane-type. In which case you may find on the internet a wider range of people able and willing to re-condition or replace them, and at a lower price.
