Yes Castrol D is the stuff. Do NOT use the HYPRESS.

See Castrol's own website (open in New Window) at:- … -oils.html

OR another good quality alternative is Millers Oils 140 - … ssion-oils

Hi I have a lichfield and have just put castrol classic ep140 oil into the axle and steering box which seems to be recommended in the handbooks I have.
I emailed castrol and they told me the oil is made to the same specification as in 1935.
I presume it is the bronze bearings which can be the problem any information on the subject  would be much appreciated.
many thanks Ken.

Hi All,

FAQs has the answer!!!

It adds a bit more to Bill's post by suggesting an alternative  to SAE 40 - an oil suitable for use with bronze bearings.
Also do not use anything labelled Hypoid.

First join the Austin 10 Drivers Club, get the monthly magazine and host of other facilities including access to the full forum.

Next purchase Stanton Abbey book of the Austin 10, often come up on fleabay, it will tell you all you need to know about your new purchase.

Morris's SAE40 engine oil works well for the the engine and gearbox, not sure about the rear axle, should know but have forgotten.

Good luck with the motor.
