Re: New USA owner 47 Austin 10 questions
Can't help with specific A10 advice, and everyone has their own preferences, but the general feeling is a single weight oil in the engine. Same oil in the gearbox and some sort of SAE 140 in the rear axle. These are what I use in my Fourteen (this may spark some discussion!!) I am in New Zealand so ...

Re: BODY ROLL
Yeah, is it a bump stop or an auxiliary spring only became an WoF (our 'MoT') issue when excessively lowering cars became a fashion here in NZ. "car enthusiasts", aka boy racers, would drop the cars right down on the bump stops by heating or cutting turns off the suspension strut springs if they wer...

Re: BODY ROLL
Those items you show Peter, are actually more in the nature of 'auxiliary (or helper) springs' which is why they are nice and progressive and altogether a much better idea than a straight out semi-hard stop. In fact, if you look under some models of Transit (and no doubt other vans), you will see a ...

Re: Head Gasket Austin York
Forgot there was a link on the site, thanks Peter. Might have to visit SpecSavers... If you are buying two head gaskets Michael, resist the temptation to hang the spare one on a nail like the stereotypic movie/TV/Video workshop does. Store it carefully, preferably sandwiched between two sheets of li...

Re: Head Gasket Austin York
Hey Michael, I am sure someone will pop up here with the definitive answer you need, but in the interim you might find the information you seek on the late John Baker's website <www (dot) austinmemories (dot) com> he has a listing of the chassis numbers (among other interesting things) so at least y...

Re: tightening torques
Hey Ugo, I'm sure others will join in, but here's my 10 cents worth... If you're talking about pre-WW2 cars, generally speaking there are no published torque figures (apart from a single reference that I found in the Austin Service Journal which was specifically for cylinder head fastenings). This g...

Re: The Austin Service Journal Vol 1 1928
Hi Graeme, I know Denis Le Cren donated/sold a full set of the Austin service Journals to the NZ VAR back in 2016, his for sale advertisement in the club mag for Dec 2015 says "Set of original Austin Service Journals in 23 Volumes covering all models". I assume you've been in touch with the archivis...

Re: Seats
Just my two bobsworth Mike, if you're talking about the coil springs and wiggly wire type in a steel frame (I've seen them called 'spring cases')there are a few suppliers who make them up for more exotic cars (like Austin Healey 3000s/XK 140 Jaguars) who seem to be able to source the components, may...

If the club can't supply for whatever reason Mike, they're 99.9% likely to be BSF thread.
If you're lucky your local engineering consumables supplier might have some he wants to get rid of at a nominal price
