Re: 1938 Ten Cambridge Suspected blown head gasket.
Delia You will need the later oval-hole gasket: 1G618 item 002 in the Club Spares. Many of these cars (including mine) have been fitted with a post-war iron head. The water holes line up with those in the block of the 38/39 model. A good feature of these cylinder heads is that they have a stick-y-ou...

Re: New First time owner Austin 12 Ascot AEF830A in Wakefield
Paul Firstly congratulations on choosing an Austin 12 Ascot as your venture into oldtime motoring pleasure. The car is not known to the club under the registration AEF 830 A. That is a very strange reg. No. to be allocated to it by DVLA as it is not "age-related" being a No. first issued in 1963! Yo...

Try also the ATDC spares dept they do have used parts that are not listed on the website. On the main website page go to Parts Department then use the phone No shown in the top line. Re: 1932 Austin 10 - Use of engine coolant
I use deionised water in the radiator, as supplied for steam irons and in the old days to top up battery cells. But I do add antifreeze

Re: Leather oil seals
ATDC technical fact sheet No 2 Back Axle Oil Seals is what you need. Login to the members area on the main website (not this forum) and using the green drop-down menu on the top right go to Technical Documents then scroll down the screen to the one you want. You can download this and print it off. F...

Re: Paint Code
There are said to be many shades of black. I think the club guide with suggested codes of modern colours assumes that the car is undergoing a complete repaint so the idea is to match it as closely as possible to original colours offered by Austin. The car may have been repainted in its life and / or...

Re: Valve guide punch
Newnes says "If new guides are necessary the old ones can be driven out from the top and new ones driven in from the same direction" (Vol 2 - Austin 10 Engine by W T Mead MIMT) It does not say what tool to use but to direct the blows of the hammer some kind of drift would be useful. Perhaps the tomm...
