Re: BRF 541 history or info?

Charlotte This maroon (and black) 1933 Austin 10 car is listed by DVLA at Swansea and is on the ATDC database. But it is neither on the road nor SORN and no current member of ATDC claims ownership. Hopefully it might be lurking in someone's garage or barn somewhere. DVLA shows it has been untaxed si...

Re: Austin 10 Steam, pouring from overflow

Your choice of car is a good one. Simple and sturdy design that is easily worked on without too many special tools or test gadgets. You need more coolant in the radiator than 2 litres. For a Lichfield about 8 litres as Phil says. Remove the radcap & have a look into the header tank with a torch. You...

Re: BMC 284 - Yes, Chassis No - F20757/15 indicates that this car had the "15.9hp" 1711cc engine from new. 1FF1631 is an early one. The option was only made available in 1934. The suffix on the car No. FBW 2900/15 also indicates a 15.9 engine. The 13.9 cars had suffixes /13. The 13.9hp engines had 1...

Re: Starting engine after rebuild

When I bought my first 10 it had a rebuilt engine. I had to get my dad to tow it before it would start. After that it was fine.

Re: Identifying a replacement engine.

An engine No. much lower than the chassis No. is normal on the Goodwood. The difference is about 22300. 1FF is the correct prefix for a Goodwood engine. The reason for this is that the chassis No. series dates began with the introduction of the 12/6 in 1931 with the 1496cc engine (13.9hp for tax) bu...

Re: Heater

Phil is clearly the expert on this having tried several different methods. I have not, tho' my '34 Ten has an off-take in the header tank someone had fitted. In the past I have seen 10s (other than Phil's) fitted with the Ford add-on pump running off the back of the belt as he describes. Some kind o...
