Re: Cheeky Santa Cover pic on Old Mag

I expect that none of the girls objected, a cheery picture with no offence.

Re: Austin 12 New Ascot Cabriolet 1937

Hi Brian, I am sure Peter Winney meant no offence and certainly didn't mean to patronise, of course the Cabriolets both Twelves and Tens, are rare survivors. More Tens were manufactured than Twelves and there are some cars of which the Club has no record. The Cabriolet body is, by its very design an...

Re: Austin 12/4 my chassis number v DVLA info

Hi Phil and Peter, H/R Series started with H34729, so your car is within the last 500 of the more upright Ascots produced before the introduction of the New Ascot. As Peter said, the Car Number will be HBX followed by a five figure number. I have never owned an Ascot, although that is the car on whi...

Re: OIL FILTER MESH

Hi Dave, Remember, this is a strainer, not a filter. The oil drains into the strainer bowl and permeates back into the sump. The majority of the heavy particles will settle at the base of the strainer bowl and only light particles suspended in the hot oil are likely to be retained in the mesh. Since...

Re: Water

Hi Mike, The Austin Ten List of Spare Parts (Publication 1540, issued June 1937) shows the aluminium Water Inlet Elbow [1G418] with its threaded boss at the bottom of the curve and the Drain Tap [2H764] with its fibre washer [2K4975]. The Twelve four engine which is a similar but larger design has t...

Re: Grille badge

Peter, you can solder them with modern low temperature solder, but the metal, Mazak, zinc based alloy must be clinically clean. I have also glued it successfully using Bondic with U/V cure, but I wouldn't bet on how long it will last 'coz the U/V can't see through the metal. (it's OK on plastic comp...

Re: Petrol tank sender

Hi Steven,

If the resistance coil is wired to the wrong polarity it will register empty on the gauge when the tank is full and vice versa, the later units are Negative earth.

Kind regards,

Re: Petrol tank sender

Hi Mike, Some time ago, Tony Mealing answered a question by describing how to convert a later [Negative Earth] tank Unit to [Positive Earth]. With careful handling, this can be done successfully and it saves a lot of trouble fiddling about with badly worn elderly components. Ask Tony. Peter C. [6515]

Re: Austin Light 12/6 Harley - Fuel Pump

Hi PJ, I have an AUSTIN Twelve Six List of Spare Parts Book Publication Number 807 dated Feb. '31 which lists a Zenith Updraught Carburetter fed by an AC Fuel Pump with a glass filter incorporated on the inlet side. I have a more modern version of the same AC Fuel Pump that I would be prepared to se...
