Re: 1935 Lichfield no drive?

The Woodruff key merely locates the hub. It should not take the drive which should be taken through the taper. If the hub becomes loose on the shaft such that the drive and overrun is taken thru' the key then the keyway slot in the half-shaft will be subject to repeated on-off loading that will resu...

Re: 1935 Lichfield no drive?

Colin From what you say it sounds like the offside half shaft is broken, probably sheared at the keyway as described by Rod. Do NOT tow the car as the road wheel will fall off! Best use a trailer or small transporter truck to move it. Pitman's only covers what the "average" pre-war & 1950s owner-dri...

Re: I need your help

As far as I can tell this club has no record of a car with the reg no JH 2435. The nearest to it are both higher JH numbers and 1933 Tens. The DVLA has no record of a car with that registration either so it looks as though it did not get onto the central computer system (created in the 1980s). That ...

Re: Austin 12/4 Harley - Buying Advice Requested

Colin
Keep looking. It is worth waiting for the "right" car (Unlike me - I just jump in the first that comes along!) The 12/4 Harley is a nice car to drive and looks good. I was once lent one to use on the scenic run of a National Rally when I had turned up in a modern.

Re: half shaft

Thanks for replying, can I just do the nearside casing and leave the main rear axle in place, or do you have to remove the rear axle from the car and split both sides . I did see the castled nut but hoped the unit would come off in one piece. Thanks It is possible to leave half the axle on the car ...

Re: half shaft

If you have not done it already you need to split the axle at the centre and draw the the two halves of the axle casings off the half-shafts & differential assembly. If it will not shift then remove the two locking plates on the back of the axle (2 bolts each - one on each side of the differential -...

Re: 10/4 History

That is good as they may have some old documents such as the RF60 Registration Book. This showed past owners and annual tax paid (until recording the latter on the RF60 was dropped in 1968) but were usually destroyed when the car went onto the Swansea computer. If an RF60 survives it is normally a "...

Re: 10/4 History

APH 131, Chassis No G 18508, Car No GC 15592 a 1933 Austin 10 saloon, Green and Black, was known to ATDC in 1991 when the car was owned by a member living in Hertfordshire. Date of 1st registration is not known but probably about June 1933. Engine No. not known. Change in Reg No must have been after...

Re: Engine colour

When new these cars had black block and engine. There are dozens of "shades" of "black" but any heat-resistant black paint would be do. Some people prefer the BMC green colour, like a Morris Minor of a Mini, but of course that colour did not come into use until several years after the end of the pro...
