Re: New to 10 ownership

Much of what you will have learned for the Seven will apply to the 10 as well, tho' the 10 is more robust so less likely to need repair. Worth getting a copy of Staton Abbey, Pitman's Book of the Austin 10 (lots of them about) though it does have the odd misleading "fact" such as the capacity of the...

Re: Starter Motor

Are these parts missing from your car, or are the ones on it in need of rebuild or repair? Reason for asking is that any used or second hand part might need work to repair anyway

Jasper
Ooh nasty! There is a tool consisting of a long flexible tube with a "grasper" at the end of it. Might be able to reach into plug hole and grope around for the nut. Not sure where I got mine - Halford's maybe or a classic car show. I will try and post a photo of it.

Re: tracking down an Austin 10

This late 10hp Clifton 2-seat & dickey - DUL 653 - is not one previously known to ATDC - it does not appear on any list that I can find. The car is listed by DVLA as a black Austin 10 first registered in February 1937. It is shown as not taxed for use on the road and the last record appears to have ...

Re: Best petrol for 32 Austin 10

Dave Do you have another 10 owner near you so you can compare performance? As Rod says the Austin 10 is a bit sluggish up hills (mine can manage 9 mph when on the hill in the lane up to the racecourse whereas the Ford Fiesta can get up it at 30+ mph). The Austin 10 gives you the opportunity to admir...

Re: Headlights and Horn

I would be willing to bet you have a 6v car ;) Seems to me likely old wiring and poor earth return creating too much resistance in the electrical circuit to power both at the same time. You can check circuits are OK using a multi-meter but others are better able to advise on that - I am not expert. ...

Re: Headlights and Horn

Does the horn sound when the headlights are off?
If you "hotwire" the horn with the headlight on does it sound?
