I am trying to check the oil in my 1935 10 Litchfield, but there is no sign of a filler plug nor a level plug. All I can see is the drain plug.

I vaguely recall when this went into my local garage for an oil change they had to pump oil in through the drain plug until it reached the level of the tube inside, or am I imagining things. Unfortunately the mechanic I used has since left so cant pick his brain. I know there are some cars that have a double plug which both drains the oil and provides an internal level, but all other mentions of these gearboxes on line show a level plug or at least a filling plug. I am loath to remove the drain plug as at the moment I have no way of replacing any oil that comes out!

Not an A10 specialist, but iirc don't they have a vertical facing square head level plug fitted into an extension in the gearbox casing on the left-hand (near side) rear corner ?

I’m sure you are right Rod, the filler is virtually identical to the seven, I can’t remember for sure, but there might even be access through the passenger floorboard.

To get at gearbox filler plug on the A10 you need to remove the cover over the gearbox to reveal a square nut.

Do not overfill the gearbox. The recommended quantity in most handbooks is far to much. A fraction over 1 pint is sufficient. When filled the level should be visible just below the level of the bottom thread on the filler hole.

Thanks for all your advice on this. I knew there must be one somewhere, but a previous owner had replaced the floor panels and also fabricated a new gearbox cover but the floor obscured the filler plug. I have now found this and have made a little space on the edge of the floor so I can get a filler tube into the hole.
