Hi,
I am working through the list of issues on my Austin 1934 York . Turns out if you put the car in first gear with foot on clutch it moves forward on the crank so assume the clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel . The engine isn't capable of running yet but i have seen some quite brutal methods of freeing the clutch on you tube. Can any one please advise on what methods they have used with success, ideally without splitting the gearbox from the engine.

I remember having a stuck clutch on an old Talbot I had and I got a whole load of friends round, one to sit in the driver’s seat keeping the clutch depressed and in second gear, while the rest rocked the car backwards and forwards…after about two minutes it let go.

I got the engine running as soon as possible before it could stick again and (it took me two days and it was still sticky) then ran the engine and slipped the clutch in first and reverse for several minutes and never had the problem again, though I used the car at least once a week and that definitely helped.

I will try rocking the car and see if that work. I also notice there's an inspection cover on the top of the bell housing which may prove of use.

Tried rocking the car this evening as suggested, and it worked a treat on the second attempt. Thanks for your advice.
