Engine number identification

Post by Hassan » Sat Oct 31, 2020 2:05 pm

Hello.
I have an 10/4 engine whose year I wish to confirm.
The numbers read G67602. Can anyone identify it's year of manufacture.
Regards.
Hassan

Engines are IG then a number. Yours would be about June/July 1935? From memory, the date of casting is on offside of block below distributor ( e g 26.6.5).

Usually the Austin 10 engine number is a slightly larger number than the chassis number because of the engines made as spares & other uses. For example a 10/4 Lichfield registered 1st May 1935 chassis No. G67141 had an engine No. IG67875. Of course with any car that has had a replacement engine in its lifetime this rule-of-thumb will not apply.
