Post by Jasper » Mon Aug 23, 2021 8:21 pm

Hi
Can anyone tell me what the red fluid is in the fuel guage... Mine has gone blue and doesn't appear to be working!!

Many thanks

You need the ATDC fact sheet #5, which gives some information on the Hobson 'Telegage' system which is what you have.
The original red fluid isn't very user friendly (and I would think unobtainable in its original formulation) but the factsheet gives you some alternatives to consider. There is a bit of generic info on the internet too, the gauge system was used by other makes besides Austin.

You can get the fluid from america but apart from it being not very human friendly, it can evaporate and the system is somewhat unreliable at the tank end.

Have found a company called Fiennes Parts.
The site seems current, however, I would want to know that the tank part of the Hobson system is intact and working before spending on the fluid.
