Morning
May be a silly question, but i have fitted an electric fuel pump to Elsie and want to refurbish the mechanical glass bowl one. Can i just fit a blanking plate temporarily ???
Thank you in advance

Can’t think of any reason why not Jasper.
You will want to use a gasket behind the plate to “limit” oil weeping down the outside of block.
These engines seem to generate a lot of oil splash and mist. This side of the engine relies on mist being forced up into the valve chest via 3 ( or 4 ) quite small holes to lubricate the followers and tappers. The opening for the mechanical fuel pump is just below the valve chest.

Agree, no reason why not. I have done it to several other makes for similar reasons (once or twice it ended up a permanent fixture).
Just use a pump mounting flange gasket as a template to cut from, I usually cut them out of a piece of scrap 1/4" aluminium plate with a jig saw, but even wood or plastic would do, there is no significant pressure behind it, just lots of oil splash.
