Hi. Is it possible to remove the gearbox from an Austin 10/4 1933 without removal of the engine? Thanks

Have not done it myself but according to club Technical Reprints, yes it is.

I've tried both ways and found removal of the engine by far the easiest.

There is a knack to removing the gearbox on its own with the early cars. The technique involves removing the near-side half of the brake cross shaft, and a jiggling of the box to allow clearance of the first motion shaft. The full description is in ATDC Magazine Technical Reprints Vol 1 pages 31 & 32. It does not work so easily for cars after May '35 and chassis No G 68569 which have a carbon-thrust clutch withdrawal mechanism.

I have removed & replaced the gearbox of a '34 Ten in the street in France on holiday when the clutch centre-plate needed re-riveting to the centre spline.
