Re: Servicing and repairs - Herts, Beds, Cambs?
You don't say where you are located but I use Chris of Classic and Retro Ltd in Sible Hedingham which is about 15 minutes drive from Cambridge. Excellent work on my brakes, king pins, steering etc on both my 10/4 and also my 12/4 Ascot. Also specialised in MG T series cars.

Re: Later type Starter Solenoid
I contacted our spares department by telephone and they found the correct later type solenoid in stock and sent it to me. The part was obviously used but functional and had been cleaned. The base plate had a crack but this was easily fixed by using a larger flat washer to secure it to the starter mo...

Later type Starter Solenoid
Is there anybody out there who knows where I can obtain one of the later type starter motor solenoids for my 1936 Austin 12/4 Ascot. I am out of options and cant modify as described in Tony's technical data sheet. These solenoids are no longer manufactured and I am just hoping someone will have a ne...

Re: Clutch adjustment
I have exactly the opposite problem. The clutch pedal free movement is too much before the clutch engages. I think the clutch should bite before the pedal hits the floor. I have had the clutch rebuilt by a classic car mechanic but now it has far too much movement. I am told that as the clutch wears ...

Timing Chain Cover
I keep seeing the aluminium Timing Chain Cover coming up for sale on eBay and other sites and it seems there is a significant requirement for this spare but in all the years i have owned and driven Austin 10's I have never had the need to replace the timing chain cover although, I have replaced the ...

Re: 1933 austin 10/4 CLIFTON
First problem which is easy to resolve is the driving technique. You cannot "ride" the clutch fitted to Austin cars during this period in the same way that you can "ride" the clutch of a modern car. These cork faced clutches are either in or out there is no half way house so as a first action consid...

Re: January 2021 Magazine
Peter, would it be possible to put me in touch with Mike Kelly concerning his Electrified Austin cars. I had an on line technical discussion with him about 12 months ago when he was building his A7E but I have lost his contact. I know he received some pretty awful and quite unacceptably nasty commen...

Re: 1933 ten, valve grind
My understanding was that Leaded Petrol was not available in the UK before 1940 when it was first imported from the USA in small volumes. If this is correct then our Austin 10 side valve engines were designed to run on what we now call unleaded petrol because that is all there was and there is no ne...

Re: Andre Hartford Dampers
Sorry about the delay in this conversation but ill-health intervened (Not the virus thank goodness) and I have only just now finished repairs to the dampers on my January 1935 Lichfield the results of which may interest some readers. My 10/4 was originally fitted with Andre-Hartford type 503 frictio...

Running Board covers
Austin 10/4 Lichfield: Some time ago I saw some rubber or possibly fibreglass covers for a Lichfield running board advertised. I think it was in Northern Ireland. The covers on my car are now reaching a stage where they can no longer be patched up. The boards underneath are in good condition but the...
