Re: 1935 Lichfield no drive?

Good Work Colin! I don't think there is supposed to be a washer under the hub nut (contrary to normal practice), but if you find that the slots in the hub nut don't line up with the holes in the halfshaft when you finally put it together, either axially or radially, then is when you swap the nuts fr...

Re: Dynamo to alternator

Sounds like the cut out points have welded shut. No offence Daren, but there is more to dynamo charging systems than appears at first glance, and its impossible to diagnose reasons for this happening (and there are several possibilities) by remote control (ie via forum posts). My suggestion, fwiw, w...

Re: 1935 Lichfield no drive?

Colin, you are most welcome. As you can see from my profile, I am a considerable distance from you (and not a member) so I cant post photos. If you're used to more modern vehicle, pre-war Automobile Technology can be confusing (and baffling/idiosyncratic/eccentric - but the Designers had good reason...

Re: 1935 Lichfield no drive?

Make sure you are looking at the correct A10 manual, it might be for the later GS1 (1939-1947). They are significantly different from your model. I'm pretty certain ( I stand to be corrected on this) that there's no Austin generated workshop manual for pre -war cars. Also, seeing as how you are an A...

Re: 1935 Lichfield no drive?

Colin, when you say the rear axle nut is turning, I am presuming the axle shaft that it is screwed onto also turns? These cars have a separate flange carrying the wheel which is taper fitted to the axle (half) shaft and secured on the taper by the nut. I suspect the axle flange has come loose on its...

Re: Petrol pump 10/4 1933

Agree, no reason why not. I have done it to several other makes for similar reasons (once or twice it ended up a permanent fixture). Just use a pump mounting flange gasket as a template to cut from, I usually cut them out of a piece of scrap 1/4" aluminium plate with a jig saw, but even wood or plas...

Re: Engine colour

I always knew FG/S200 series lorries as "leg lookers" for obvious reasons. "Threepenny/Thrup'ney bit" is a new one on me, but looking at the Wikipedia entry it makes perfect sense. Have to agree with the comments about the cab, seats were too narrow (and the cab got too hot), also not exactly a spee...

Following on from your previous post, what's the situation now regarding the ~1 inch of piston travel?
