Hi Peter
Yes I put a similar piece of tin plate on the bottom of my 12/6 to protect the hose from the fan belt. Great minds think alike!

Re: 1933 ten, valve grind
Hi Gary
The problem you have described is not uncommon. Where the valve stem hammers against the tappet does wear. So when you think you have set a clearance of 6 thou it is infact about 26 thou. Well spotted.

Re: 1933 ten, valve grind
Hi Gary
I was told to work to 1/8th inch to 3/16th inch for the contact area, so your figures sound OK. It is also important to try and get the contact area in the centre of the valve face.

Re: Valuation
Hi Steve A 1934 Austin 10 in good condition can be worth approx £7000. However a non runner with quite a lot of work to do to get it up and running would probably only be worth about £3500 if the interior is still OK. It might be worth at least checking over the engine and getting it started then it...

Re: 1933 ten, valve grind
The normal recommendation is a light smearing of grease to settle the gasket evenly. Tighten the head nuts down in the correct sequence and retighten after about 50 miles.

Re: 10/4 Oil Pressure
Hi Andrew Your normal HOT oil pressure should be 30 to 35 PSI at about 30 MPH. The cold oil pressure on starting up can be a lot higher and that is regulated by the oil pressure relief valve on the side of the engine block. Screw the regulator bolt out to reduce the cold oil pressure to about 38 ish...

Re: Looking for a 100/4
Hi For £5,000 to £7,500 you should be able to buy a really nice Austin 10 or 12. Try joining the ATDC you will get a monthly magazine which usually advertises 4 or 5 Austins for sale in this price bracket. If you eventually buy an Austin 10 you will probably end up joining the club anyway (you don't...

Re: where are all the topics?
Hi All I am glad that I am not alone in not being able to access the Forum. This is the only way I can manage to post a question. What has happened to all the previous posts that have been made? Although I appear to be able to log in there does not appear to be a members forum up and running. I have...
