Fuel starvation???
Replaced gasket etc with repair kit (Zenith 26 VA Carb) Engine starts and runs with choke right out, but will not tickover or run unless choke right out. Getting despondent now. New inline fuel filter fitted...could it be too small?? Fuel in carb bowl so pump ok. Any ideas gratefully received!! Than...

Hi
Got the head off, there it was sat on top of the piston. New gasket, got rid of all the carbon, cleaned head,everything in good order, putting her back together tomorrow!!

Hi Both my friend and i got it wrong...there is full 3.5 inch travel on the pistons and all very smooth. Grateful thanks to all who helped me in my distress...Just shows how a lack of knowledge leads to false conclusions...Mind you last time I took a head off was 1975!!!! Just got to put it back tog...

OK, bit the bullet, took the head off and there it was sat on the piston!!
Glad I did as certainly in need of a decoke. Needs new gasket, but hey, loads of learning learnt and believe it or not, hugely enjoyable..takes me back a few years as well... Thanks for all suggestions
