Re: Oil grades

Re: Syntrax and yellow metal components, this product is actually rated GL4/GL5 & MT-1 and is also specified as synchromesh transmission friendly on the pack [I know there is still some ambiguity about GL5 oils being suitable for earlier transmissions]. Off Topic: We used to use it successfully in t...

Re: Oil grades

Others will most likely have other suggestions, but FWIW on my Goodwood [in New Zealand] I use: -Penrite Transoil T140 in the rear axle, this is labelled as safe for ferrous and non ferrous metals, also safe for leather seals. -Castrol Syntrax Universal in the gearbox, probably overkill but I had ac...

Re: Leaking exhaust manifold stud

I've used Loctite 567 many times for this sort of job on other vehicles. If you're feeling lucky, you might be able to double nut the stud, remove it without having disturbing your previous work, apply the sealer to the thread and put the stud back in again. Non-hardening, if it doesn't work, no har...

Re: BetChan Casino

Fresh bunch of chancers every time Ted, from a different 'address'.
Website interprets them as genuine subscribers unless notified they're not.
I just report them using the exclamation mark button to tag them and your admin guys delete them once they get a chance.

Re: Goodwood crankshaft vibration damper

I've only ever seen one other Goodwood [a '37] in real life, and it also had a solid pulley. Didn't go for a drive in that one but the owner mentioned how smooth it was to drive. He also mentioned in passing that he had spent more than the purchase price of my entire car on his engine alone so I sus...

Goodwood crankshaft vibration damper

One for the Goodwood experts among you: My Goodwood (late 1938 build) has a one-piece [solid] crankshaft pulley instead of the expected rubber damped one, and it looks to have been on there for a considerable time. I suspect it is a contemporary Twelve item? I was wondering whether this was an offic...

Re: 1933 Austin 10/4 front wheel bearings

Hi Gary, I haven't done this either, but imho why not just leave the seals in? Sealed bearings are 'lubricated for anticipated service life' according to the manufacturer, and in my experience in the trade I would say that 99.99% of post-1990 light vehicles use this style of bearing in their front/r...

Re: What’s going on

Hi Ted, looks like scammers/spammers jumping on the site, possibly bots not necessarily humans.
I see they are back again,my advice to anyone [who doesn't know this already] would be not to click on any links 'they' provide.
I have reported different batches twice, Ill do it again.

Re: Steering Box

Hi David, If you mean the stator tube to which the indicator [trafficator] switch and horn button are attached to, using a 'Fourteen' as an example, and I'm thinking a similar age 'Ten' will be similar apart from the adjustable reach facility : Yes, any steering box oil/grease will leak out as soon ...
