Cheeky Santa Cover pic on Old Mag

This front cover photo from Dec 1996 caused some flurries in committee :D Mag-cover_Dec-1996-comp.jpg The Editor reported he received an anonymous letter complaining about it. Two of the committee then objected "feeling there is no place for this in a car club magazine" So - 3 members out of >1200 :...

Re: Austin 12 New Ascot Cabriolet 1937

Brian My apologies. I think I have a different meaning for "fuss" probably due to my age & upbringing. I meant don't worry about it. Did not mean to patronise. Almost all parts are common with the New Ascot which means that rarity is not a problem. The New Ascot Cabriolet is a very nice car and I am...

Re: Austin 12 New Ascot Cabriolet 1937

Its impossible to say. They are relatively rare. Like all Austin cabriolet they combine the benefits of a saloon with that "open air" feeling. The parts of course are common to the saloon. Don't fuss about "rarity" - just enjoy.

Re: YRU 235 10/4 2 seater & dickey

I once had a 1963 car that was imported from Belgium and had been given a 1970 Reg. No. Was fine as far as I was concerned until it failed its MoT for not having seat belts fitted - an exemption for a '63 reg but not for a later one!

Re: YRU 235 10/4 2 seater & dickey

Guy That would explain it. A better No. than some of the 1950s Scottish numbers that DVLA dish out as "Age-Related Reg. Nos". The law on registrations has recently been updated and now it is illegal to have a registration No. that is younger than the car. Probably to discourage "passing off" of old ...

Re: YRU 235 10/4 2 seater & dickey

The car is recorded by DVLA as currently taxed. It still appears to be blue & black as recorded on the ATDC database but unfortunately the current owner is not a member. It appears 3 times in the database which, assuming your dad was a member of the club, means that at least two subsequent owners we...

Re: WW2 era Austin 10 wanted

The DH museum is a new one to me. Must pay it a visit.

I have distant memories of visiting the factory to see the Comet 1 fly and in production on the line. Both very noisy!

Re: WW2 era Austin 10 wanted

A GRQ is fairly rare (the 1939 & wartime model) but the post-war GSI looks the same and I have seen them painted up as WWII staff cars looking very smart. Another option is the Tilly 10hp truck as in the pics of Princess Elizabeth in the ATS. Hope you find what you are looking for. Try also the clas...
