Check your contact breaker gap , again . It can happen that the points are just not making contact at all , so that there is no circuit to break . You will still get a spark when opening them by hand . This defeated me once when I just set them by eye carelessly , they looked shut , but they weren't .

Old cars always did burn oil , so just keep an eye on consumption . No 3 is not badly down at all , so maybe just live with it . You still have plenty of fresh air down under .

Sounds like engine mounts , possibly interacting with pedal linkage .

The tappets would likely be work hardened in way of the valve with the hammering . Is it possible to lift the tappett and tappett block out with the engine in the car ? I forgot to sort mine when I had the engine in bits
