Out of interest, why does the club quote only pre war dates and not the entire production run dates? Is mine beyond the pale?

There is no simple answer. History plays a part. The club was formed to rescue and preserve the pre-war cars that were heading into scrap yards in vast numbers in the 1960s. Spare parts for these earlier cars are mostly inter-changeable (with some mods down the years). The new models introduced in late 1939 were entirely new with almost no parts the same.
Just off to the shops now with the mrs - will complete this post when I get back!

1939 provided a step-change in design & construction of the cars. The new models were semi-monocoque, had new engine, gearbox, banjo back axle, different track. Most were exported. To an extent they have always been regarded as "different" or "other" from the earlier cars, so in a sense "outside the pale" rather than inside it, as you suggest. They are still Austin and date from when Lord Austin was alive, so have all the merits that the name implies.

Thanks for the explanation Peter. I feel more included now! Looking forward to events where I can examine the differences first hand.

Hi Robin if you go to facebook marketplace and put in Austin 10 for a search there is a wheel there. Don't know if it is suitable. Mike
