Can you identify this car?

Post by beatj1 » Tue Oct 20, 2026 11:01 am

I have a photograph of my father’s car I think from the early 1950s, being hoisted onto a ferry. Possibly going Glasgow to Ireland. I think the car is probably an Austin Ten GS1, built around 1939–1947. Numberplate was ASN 228. Pity I can’t upload the photo.

Can anyone identify the car from the number.

The reg no ASN is Dunbartonshire between October 1946 to March 1949. Production of the GSI ceased in 1948 so one of the last to be registered. The post-war Austin 10 GSI was essentially the pre-war and wartime G/RQ. They were not given a model name by Austin and are popularly known as the Alligator Bonnet version. There are some pictures of the model on this website towards the end of the picture gallery under Dating tens https://www.austintendriversclub.com/cars.php?
