Fuel Rationing & Vehicle Checks
From 1st April 2035
Under Gov UK Proposals for Net Zero new internal combustion engined (ICE) vehicles will be banned from sale from 2035. For existing vehicles remaining on the road after that date fossil fuel rationing and regular checks to ensure that exhaust emissions are minimised will be introduced. These will be applied to Historic Vehicles but with emission checks measured against levels appropriate to the design age of the vehicle
Fuel Rationing
Will apply only to fossil fuels. Any non-fossil carbon-neutral fuels developed for ICE vehicles will not be rationed
Emission Checks
Are to be applied as part of a recommended annual service schedule. Servicing of Historic Automobiles Kinetic Emissions (SHAKE) will be rolled out in conjunction with reintroduction of simplified MoT style roadworthiness checks for historic vehicles under the revised Vehicle Annual Check (VAC) scheme.
For historic vehicles the SHAKE & VAC scheme required frequency may depend on annual mileage covered.
